Golf

With the PGA European Tour season now complete, the Matchroom Golf Management team easily topped the £1.5 million mark in prize-money after a highly successful year.

Weighing in with a total of £1,672,744, the pick of the eight-man squad was Mansfield-based Greg Owen who had his best year yet on tour, earning £389,346 and finishing 32nd on the Order of Merit.

Pool

Top pool bookmaker Stan James has posted the odds for the 2001 Mosconi Cup and in light of their five year run of success in the event, Team USA are the odds-on favourites at 8/15 with Europe priced at 11/8. American captain Earl 'the Pearl' Strickland is a 9/2 favourite to take the most points out of the two six-man sides, with Euro skipper Ralf Souquet quoted at 6/1.

 

 

Sportel Monaco 2001

With a brand new high-tech stand and our new web-site on display, Matchroom Sport brought six-times World Snooker Champion Steve Davis and Phil Taylor, the nine-times World Darts Champion, over to Monte Carlo for this year's Sportel. The exhibition is a major event on the TV calendar - a huge marketplace for the buying and selling of sports programmes worldwide.

Both Phil and Steve created a lot of attention on the stand and the Matchroom Sport sales staff had a busy time of it, meeting old friends and forging new relationships with future clients.

Tenpin

Nachimi Itakura of Japan and Kim Haugen of Norway have won the women's and men's titles at the 2001 AMF Bowling World Cup in Pattaya, Thailand.

Itakura disposed of the Philippines Liza del Rosario in two games, 247-224 and 257-224, to become the first Japanese national to ever capture the Tenpin Bowling World Cup.

Alan 'The Ice Man' Warriner was crowned Paddy Power World Darts Grand Prix champion in Dublin, with a victory over Roland Scholten eight sets to two.

Not a classic by any means but for Alan Warriner, who has been defeated in world finals, it was a truly sweet moment as he lifted his first ever PDC world title.

Golf

With the Mauritius Open taking place in December, the following top-ranked players from the 2001 Europro Tour Order of Merit will be in the starting line-up at Belle Mare Plage. They are Mark Sanders (Bristol), Lee Thompson (Bournemouth), Graham Fox (West Kilbride) and Carl Richardson (Lincoln). For Graham Fox, it will be his last tournament as part of the Europro Tour, as earlier in November he came through the extremely tough qualifying process and will playing his golf on the main PGA European Tour in 2002..

 

Poker

Six-times world snooker champion Steve Davis will put aside his cue next March to compete in the world's biggest poker event - Poker Million. Fellow professional Jimmy White is also expected to chance his arm, competing alongside the world's top poker players.

The Ladbrokescasino.com Poker Million offers a guaranteed top prize of at least £1 million to the winner. Total prize fund on offer will be an expected £2.1 million, with places strictly limited to 300.

Snooker

The top three players in the world - Mark Williams, John Higgins and defending League Champion Ronnie O'Sullivan have all signed up for the 2002 Premier Snooker League and will be eager to do battle when the League commences in January.
