Map: USA 1940-41: Who Lived Where

*

German Ethnographic Map 1940-41The entry of the USA into the Second World War eventually affected its outcome. During the years 1939-1941, Hitler spent large sums of money trying to make the American people think this was a war that they did not need to get involved in.

This intricate map was part of his plan. It shows each of the states within the USA, and the number of recent European emigrants - especially those from Austria and Germany. These are marked in red on the map.

Hitler and Goebbel's believed these people would be most sympathetic to the idea of the USA not getting involved with the war and propaganda funds were targeted to these areas to pay for newspaper adverts etc. There is evidence to suggest it worked.
