The
entry of the USA into the Second World War eventually
affected its outcome. During the years 1939-1941, Hitler
spent large sums of money trying to make the American
people think this was a war that they did not need to
get involved in.
This intricate
map was part of his plan. It shows each of the states
within the USA, and the number of recent European emigrants
- especially those from Austria and Germany. These are
marked in red on the map.
Hitler and
Goebbel's believed these people would be most sympathetic
to the idea of the USA not getting involved with the
war and propaganda funds were targeted to these areas
to pay for newspaper adverts etc. There is evidence
to suggest it worked.
