Definitions of Useful words

Slang:
informal language used by different groups or social classes, usually used to show that the speaker is a member of that group or class and to keep out people who use a different vocabulary.
Jargon:
very similar to slang in many ways but more technical or complex. It can be used to impress people or confuse them. It can be used to cover over the hard facts. It keeps people out too.
Standard English:
this is the form of English that most people recognise and accept as 'correct' or 'proper' English; it is the English that is taught in schools. It is nothing to do with accent or pronunciation, but has agreed spellings and grammar.
Glossary:
a list of words of any kind with definitions or explanations of what they mean.
